The glass-sided funicular railway conveys you in comfort from Beatenbucht to the sun terrace at Beatenberg in only ten minutes. After a short stopover, you continue your journey on the modern cable car up to the summit of the Niederhorn. The ascent is both magical and imposing, because the journey time of just under 20 minutes gives you plenty of time to relax and enjoy the surrounding mountains and lakes. You get to see the majestic Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau from the best possible angle – the perfect backdrop for a souvenir photo of your mountain trip.

Icy air streams across your face, snow crunches under your feet, and the view nearly takes your breath away: on one side the view of the Mittelland up to the Vosges, on the other the Aletsch glacier, bordered by four thousand metre peaks. Standing on the Jungfraujoch 3,454 metres above sea level, you can feel it with your first step: this is a different world. It’s one you have to experience.

If Interlaken had a king, he would reside on the Harder Kulm. From the viewing platform at 1,322 metres above sea level he would graciously look down upon Lake Brienz and Lake Thun, or admire the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. In fact, the Harder Kulm Panorama Restaurant is reminiscent of a castle. In order to visit it, however, you don’t need to be a king – just take a seat in the cable car and ascend Interlaken’s own mountain.
Whether it’s a hike up to an idyllically located mountain lake, along sheer rock faces or across bizarre lunar landscapes, there’s virtually no limit to the hiking paradise of the Interlaken holiday region. There are lots of mountain railways and cableways to transport you to the starting point of all the most attractive routes.
